A new and ground-breaking study shows that
NUCCA chiropractic treatment lowers blood pressure more effectively than two-drug combination therapy
for many patients with hypertension. A recent 2007 study showed a remarkable 10 point drop in both systolic
(the upper reading) and diastolic (the lower reading) blood pressure measurements after only one adjustment
of the first cervical vertebrae by a board-certified NUCCA chiropractic doctor.
This pilot study was conducted by Dr. George Bakeris, Director of the Hypertension Center at the University
of Chicago Medical Center and involved both a NUCCA treatment group and a control group.
Study participants were all sent to the same NUCCA upper cervical doctor in the Chicago area, Dr.
Marshall Dickholtz Sr. 50 participants received either an adjustment of the first cervical vertebrae,
known as the atlas or C1, or a “sham treatment”. Patients could not notice any difference between the
real and sham treatments due to the gentle, non-invasive nature of the NUCCA atlas adjustment.
The study results for participants who received upper cervical adjustment showed a drop from a
median systolic pressure of 147 to 129.8 and median diastolic pressure of 92.5 to 82.8. The
researchers concluded that a single
NUCCA chiropractic adjustment can lower blood pressure as effectively as two-drug combination
therapy in patients with hypertension. A larger study is already in the works and the researchers
are confident of repeating these findings in a much more comprehensive group.
